In a significant embarrassment for the country, Antim Panghal and her entire entourage are being deported from Paris due to a major disciplinary breach. The young wrestler handed her official accreditation card to her sister, who was caught by security while leaving the Games Village. Panghal had been eliminated from the Paris Olympics after losing her opening bout in the women's 53kg category earlier in the day.

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu came very close to winning a second Olympic medal. However, a missed lift in her final attempt resulted in her finishing in fourth place in the women's 49kg event. Then Jyothi Yarraji will compete in the women's 100m hurdles repechage round at 2:05 pm. Wrestlers Anshu Malik and Aman Sehrawat will start their respective campaigns in 57kg freestyle at 3:00 pm. Weightlifting: Olympic Records Broken In Women's 59kg Event

All three Olympic records - snatch, clean and jerk and overall - in the women's 59kg weightlifting discipline have been broken today. Ukraine's Kamila Konotop first smashed the snatch record by lifting 104 kg, but her competitors stepped it up by elevating the mark. The record exchanged hands with China's Luo Shifang (105kg) and Canada's Maude Charron (106kg), before Shifang finally ran away with it by lifting 107kg. The Chinese lifter also broke the clean-and-jerk mark with a 134kg effort, taking her overall tally to 241kg, which is a Games record in itself.

Aman Sehrawat, India's lone male wrestler at the Paris Olympics, has been thoroughly outclassed by Japan's Rei Higuchi. The Rio Games silver medallist beats Aman by technical superiority (10-0) in the freestyle 57kg semi-finals to storm into the gold medal round. Aman, meanwhile, will battle for bronze medal tomorrow against Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz.

While all Indian eyes are on Neeraj Chopra's javelin throw final today, there are several other exciting events in athletics with medals up for grabs. When it comes to Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, expect the unexpected. The 27-year-old comes up with a humongous 92.97m throw to not just hit Neeraj Chopra's hopes of a second straight gold medal in the men's javelin throw event, but also shatter the Games record. Neeraj follows up with a season-best effort of 89.45m to be placed second. An Indo-Pakistan duel at the Olympics, that too in athletics. Who would have thought?

And it is the Pakistani athlete who ends up on top in the javelin throw final. Arshad Nadeem's monster 92.97m throw is expectedly the best of the night, and his Olympic record-shattering effort brings him a historic gold medal. This is Pakistan's first medal at the Summer Games in 32 years, after the hockey bronze in 1992.

Resultantly, India's golden spearhead Neeraj Chopra fails to defend his title. He nevertheless claims silver with a best throw of 89.45m, and becomes the first Indian track and field athlete to bag back-to-back Olympic medals. Grenada's Anderson Peters grabs the last podium place with an effort of 88.54m.

Paris Olympics: Talking Points From Day 13

In addition to the Indian hockey team winning its second straight bronze medal and Neeraj Chopra claiming silver in the men's javelin throw, several events of interest unfolded. Noah Lyles, who said he tested positive for Covid-19 on the morning of the race, had to be content with bronze as Botswana's Letsile Tebogo won the men's 200m final. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone smashed the world record en route the women's 400m hurdles gold, and Netherlands trumped Germany in a penalty shoot-out for the men's hockey gold.
